Train
Train tickets can be purchased online directly through the train services or in person at the train stations. Note that seating is assigned, so look for your seat on your ticket. When you arrive at the train station, look for your train number on the digital board, which will tell you your platform number. This will only show about 15 min before the train is scheduled to take off and will note any delays. Look for the train number and scheduled departure time that matches your ticket, because the board will display the train’s final destination, which may be different from your stop (for example, if you are taking the train from Rome to Florence, the final destination may be Milan, so the board will show Milan as the destination).
Taxi
Near the train station, there should be taxis around to take you from the train station to the Villa. If not, you can download the apps “Free Now” or “IT Taxi” to call a taxi to the Villa. Please note that Uber is illegal in Italy, so the prices are inflated and we do not recommend using. All taxis take card payment.
Rental Car
If you plan on renting a car, there are several rental agencies near the Santa Maria Novella Train station. Note that it is very easy to get a ticket while driving in Italy. It is essential to stay out of the “ZTL” (Zona a Traffico Limitato - areas that only authorized vehicles can drive in) near the city centers. Italians ususally recommend using the app “Waze” for directions, as it will typically keep you out of the illegal zones. The address to Villa Il Poggiale is Via di Mucciano, 2, 50026 San Casciano in Val di Pesa FI, Italy.
Travel Documents
The following documents are required for US and Canadian citizens traveling to Italy:
PASSPORT
You will need a valid passport to travel to Italy. The expiration date on the passport must be at least 3 months beyond your planned date of departure. This means that even if your passport expires in July-September of 2026, you will need a new passport to attend our wedding in June. The passport must also have at least 2 blank pages for the entry stamp at customs.
ETIAS
(European Travel Information and Authorisation System)
Beginning in 2026, US and Canadian citizens will need to complete an online ETIAS application prior to traveling to Italy (also many other countries in Europe). The cost is estimated to be €20
(about $23 USD/$32 CAD) per traveler.
This is a new system, but the application form will be online and only take a few minutes to complete. It will require your valid passport information, a debit/credit card, and an email address. Once the system is ready (currently they say it will be ready in early 2026), we will link the application here.
Current guidance recommends applying for ETIAS at least 30 days before travel. Therefore, we recommend all guests submit their applications by May 1. We will keep this website updated as information is released, as there is a chance the system will be delayed further and not take effect before the wedding.
